doors auto lock, do they auto unlock?

99 silveraydo. I noticed that the doors will lock automatically when you hit 15-17mph, but then when you stop and park you have to manually unlock the doors (which is annoying!). Is there a way around this? Most vehicles I've seen will unlock when you put the vehicle in park!

Re: doors auto lock, do they auto unlock?

On my 07 Grand Prix you can get to personal settings to set things like that up. From a quick Google it looks like 99 Silverados were stupid and did exactly what you are describing. 00 started being able to change the auto unlock feature.

A post I saw said you can replace the BCM with one from a newer truck to be able to program that in.

Personally, I don't see that as a problem. I'd rather not have the doors unlock automatically, but to each his own.

The newer vehicles provide a choice (usually through the factory radio settings). Older vehicle don't provide a choice, and much older vehicles do not lock automatically, which is the best option of all.

I guess you're right. I understand why having doors lock automatically is a good idea (safety, I assume). It's when I stop and have to manually unlock them that it irritates me (it feels as though I don't have power locks since I'm having to manually unlock them!). I'm glad they updated this on newer ones and gave the user the option to decide for themselves. I wish GM had done like some other manufacturers and made the (locked) doors able to open (from the inside) without needing to push the button. Some you can just exit and the door will open. I've had this truck for a few months and still reach down and lift the handle only to realize that I'm trapped
