Thickness of clear on decals

I'm getting some decals printed and has the option of 5 or 10 microns of clear on top. This sais nothing to me, could I get some guidance to wich I shall choose? What are the pros and cons?

Decals are for a motorcycle, small pieces - text and some graphic angles.

Re: Thickness of clear on decals

Just from what you posted I would say it depends...

If the decals have sharp inside corners then the thicker clear should provide better resistance to tearing. Also use the thicker clear if you are not clear coating them. They'll hold up better to being handled.

If you plan to clearcoat them the thinner ones will be less noticeable than the thicker ones.

Re: Thickness of clear on decals

Hey Joel one feature of the thinner coating is that the step between the decal and the rest of the body will be less visible but because of that it will be more fragile. Considering that one micron is one thousandth of a millimeter i would suggest going for the thickest option ... or if you can try both perhaps...

Re: Thickness of clear on decals

Sorry for not responding to your help faster. Thanks, I went for the thinner ones as they are both rather small, not going over sharp edges and that I'm using clear on top of them.
