FYI: 2000 Tundra 4-door V8 OBDII P0505
FYI: I noticed the engine idle was a little rough as well as a little slow, too. (approx. 350~400 rpm) Seemed increasingly slow over the past year. Also, after start, would not idle. I though it was the 87 octane, so I increased to 89 (Union 76) No change. Check Engine lamp came on about a week ago. My buddy hooked his SnapOn OBDII Diagnostic reader and extracted a P0505 code from the computer. The specifics of the code were vague as we were forced to use the generic OBDII Code group. The text of the code read something like "Idle Control Fault" . We noted a good response from the engine when the AC was switched on, and again when the steering wheel was moved... as this is normal engine compensation. At this point we were convinced that the engine Idle control system was responding correctly, but overall performance at idle was still a concern.
We then removed the intake boot from the inlet on the throttle body and found alot of black 'carbon-like' debris around the edges of the butterfly valve. I cleaned the valve with CRC Fuel Injection Safe cleaner and a clean rag, and restarted the engine. Idle control was perfect... Even the next morning on a cold-start, Idle was approx. 1100 and gradually dropped to around 700 after warmup.
I am very impressed with my Tundra, in every aspect. I am also very happy that I saved the $80 that Toyota wanted to extract from me, just to extract the OBDII Code...
