Streaked-up windshield

Wife sprayed Rain-X on my windshield. Rain beads up nice. The problem was that in the morning, the wipers would just smear the dew and not wipe the windshield properly. In my attempt to remove the Rain-X, I used a product called "Awesome." As it was late in the evening when I sprayed the Awesome on, mosquitoes started biting and I went inside for a minute, got side-tracked and then went to bed.
In the morning, I noticed the windshield was streaked but then remembered about spraying Awesome on it but figured there'd be no problem. WRONG! The wipers still smeared the dew but there were 'milky' streaks all down the windshield. I could still see thru it OK but sure looked bad. Since I needed gas, I tried the brush at the pump, no help. Got back home and tried Windex, vinegar & water, vinegar 100%, 0000 steel wool, ammonia, car polish and even more Awesome. Nothing would remove the milky streaks! Then, I tried rubbing compound on a small area in the lower corner. Worked great and no harm to the windshield. Got out my buffer and "went to town" on the windshield.
Now my windshield is nice and streak-free. Smooth too!
