"New" 2003 Passat W8 4Motion owners

Hi all,
Son just bought a 2003 Passat W8 4Motion and one of the many issues that is manifesting itself is that the Temperature Guage is not moving - seems to be stuck in one position. I'm reading various threads in here - is the location of the temp sensor on the firewall similar to other models?

With the laundry list of codes shown with this car I'm sure you'll be seeing me on here more....
