Question 99 Suburban A/C problems.

So, my A/C stopped cooling, but the heat works fine. I added a can of refrigerant, but it didn't work to cool anything off, so I left it alone, with the intent on having an A/C repairman look at it. Before I could have someone look at it, the front fans stopped blowing when I turn the A/C on. They don't blow when I turn the heat on, either. Not a whisper...not a sound. The rear fans work fine, though.

WTF is going on?

Re: 99 Suburban A/C problems.

There is only one fan in front and one in rear- typically referred to as blower motor-- so Tap on blower motor- or better yet, let right hand passenger kick it- right under glove box next to kick panel. If it comes on when requested, be happy and know that you'll soon need to replace it- This is the test for worn out armature, not centered- kicking it centers it and it starts running- like any DC motor, they wear out to the point they need kick started-- fuel pumps and starter motors behave the same way.

Are you getting cold air out of the rear?

when the ac is not cooling then you put the fans on max... when that happens on the ancient blower motor it will quickly fail .

Re: 99 Suburban A/C problems.

My compressor went out on my 2002 chevy suburban and I am looking into replacing it and fixing my AC.
