Speedometer cable disconnect from instrument cluster
How do you disconnect the speedometer connector to the instrument cluster? I managed to do all associated steps regarding removing the instrument cluster but could not figure out how to detach the speedometer cable connector. I need to replace a burnt out bulb to the brake light indicator.
I have attached a picture of the connector. |

Re: Speedometer cable disconnect from instrument cluster
You squeeze it while pulling it off. I don't remember for certain, but it may be that you squeeze on the flat part and opposite that, sort of 8 o'clock and 2 o'clock in the image that you attached.

Re: Speedometer cable disconnect from instrument cluster
I had to disconnect the lower end of the upper speedometer cable in the engine compartment, remove the rubber grommet from the firewall in order to completely remove the instrument cluster to get access to the speedometer connection on the back of the instrument cluster. I recall the connector in the engine compartment breaking when separating (brittle from engine heat) on the bright side it still worked fine even though the locking tabs were broken. My need to get at the upper cable was due to a jumpy speedometer. Lubricating the cable had little improvement. Got a new upper cable and life was good. Replace your instrument cluster bulbs while your at it. Best regards, Tim

Tim and Tom, thanks for you guys' response.
Where can I get the cluster bulbs besides the dealership and do you remember the spec to the bulbs? |

I got bulbs from an autoparts store, either Autozone or Advance
