why are 240's so unreliable?

sorry about posting this, but the 240 reliability scale for me is almost an exact 1.2 on a scale of 10.

everything breaks, malfunctions, cracks, falls apart, etc.

im seriously thinking of selling my car. i cant afford something i have to dump $200 into every month.

anyone know how the 240 handles reliability with aftermarket parts? that is the only way i can keep my car. with everything done to it i almost have a brand new car (with parts) but im not sure how long that is going to last.

well lets see, thats the chances you have to take by buyin a used car. esp one that is 14 years old. i know plenty of people who have single cam motors who have over 200K on the odometer and still running. of course things start to break over 14 years of winter driving, drivin in the rain. and just plain ol beatin the hell out of hte car. you don't think that rust will form underneth the car after 14 years? come on~

I know exactly what you mean. I love my car, its fun to drive, looks beautiful, etc. But almost everything I've done to my car aftermarket wise was because something stock broke on it.

Example

Needed new tires so I got new tires and wheels
Exhaust was rusted so I bought a new exhaust and header
Cat was rattling so I got a test pipe
Clutch was slipping so I got a new clutch and flywheel
Brakes grinded so I just put new brakes on
Now I need shocks bad so I'm going to have to buy new shocks and while I'm at it I might as well buy coilovers too.

realize that my car only has 63,000 miles on it.

I have a for sale sign on my car right now, if I sell it, I'm going to buy something reliable...

ANOTHER RX-7!!!!!

(or a miata and throw a 13B in it)

how can you say 240's are unreliable just because you have problems? I have a '90 plymouth laser and I've spent more on it fixing it than I paid for it and I've owned it for like 14 months, and I haven't even put anything performance on it, and I know a guy that I get cheap parts for, plus I do all the work myself, now don't complain about not being reliable, I'll trade you any day

seems to me everything you've replaced on your car is probably because the last guy didn't take care of it. But everything you replaced on your car is stuff that always gets used. So don't say unreliable. Rx-7's aren't any more reliable. later,

at least dayna feels me

my car has 73000 mi on it. i put almost double money into what i paid for it. and i paid a lot for mine (over 4000)....

exhaust, cat, pulley, radiator, fan, struts & springs. that right there is over 2200.

shit. THATS A LOTTA MONEY.....

it feels something goes wrong every two weeks. i love it, but this sucks.

maybe you don't take care of it as good as you could? not saying anything against you just suggesting that. or the person that had it before you didn't change the oil enough, or something. it could be a number of reasons but you can't say nissan makes unreliable cars because they do make some of the best, and 240's are more reliable than 2nd gen rx-7's dayna so hopefull your talking 93+

Well if you want a reliable car that your planning on putting no money into, then maybe a sports car isn't the ideal car for you, perhaps an Escort? or maybe a Focus? i hear they aren't as maintenance inclined as would be a sports car. 2200 isn't a drop in the bucket of what people put into these cars. I've invested at least 5000 into mine. Again, maybe you should look into family sedans.

A.) I forgot to say at 50,000 my clutch fan stopped working so at idle my car would overheat. So I bought an electric fan.

B.) I looked at the carfax report on my car before I bought it, I am the 4th or 5th (cant remember) owner, the car was originally from TX, and only had 40,000 miles. And it was under $7,500 so I bought it anyway.

C.) Obviously stuff I've replaced is stuff that always gets used otherwise it wouldnt be there BUT, a clutch fan, clutch, shocks, and exhaust should not have gone bad with under 60,000 miles on them.

D.) My engine is making a crazy sound now that I have never heard before.

E.) AssassinSR you dont know who I am so you cannot tell me RX-7's are not more reliable. I've owned over 20 RX-7's many with over 150,000 miles on them, completly stock. The only way my 240 will last that long is with a ton of money.

F.) I'm not saying Nissans dont make unreliable cars at all, I love Nissans and talked both my parents into buying them. Maybe I just got a lemon or the many owners before me didnt take good care of her, but I know I take extremly good care of her.

G.) "and 240's are more reliable than 2nd gen rx-7's dayna so hopefull your talking 93+" Your on crack. 2nd gens are alot more reliable than 3rd gens. N/A rotarys last way over 180,000 miles with good care, a TII engine will last about 140-150,000 miles with good care, but a 13B-REW will only last about 75-80,000 miles before it goes.

H.) "Well if you want a reliable car that your planning on putting no money into, then maybe a sports car isn't the ideal car for you, perhaps an Escort? or maybe a Focus? i hear they aren't as maintenance inclined as would be a sports car. 2200 isn't a drop in the bucket of what people put into these cars. You are an idoit- oh wait, I'm not suppose to call people that anymore on here, their feelings get hurt. ANYWAY, just because its a "sports car" doesnt mean it cant be reliable.

Not saying that there are no reliable sports cars, but then again with cars that are older comes maintenance. (i.e. replacing tires, exhaust, shocks, struts, occasionaly changing the oil, so on and so forth.) Maybe you drive it hard, or preventive maintenance isn't being done, i'm not attacking you, i simply stated that if you want reliability, and no work, then go for a sedan. However, on a serious note, sometimes the engines that are in the 240 sx, people have replaced, with parts from japan, or performance parts that are from japan. Either way, i'm in japan, and i have to tell you alot of people make the mistake of replacing american (import)car parts with japanese parts. One distinct difference between the two is that japanese parts are not meant to drive at a constant speed higher than 80 kph which is roughly between 50-60 MPH. So if on a freeway doing 70-80 MPH, that is like running that part at a constant speed of 120 or kph. which is overusing it, causing it to obviously break down quicker. This might or might not be your problem, but i have encountered it in the past. later man

im still driving with a loose power steering belt. i cant take turns more than 10mph.... i have to wait a week for my pulley to come

as for AssassinSR,

everything you are saying is crap. jap parts last longer because there's no speed limit over there buddy. people drive their cars harder.

as for "Maybe you drive it hard, or preventive maintenance isn't being done" --- i've driven it 10000 mi since i bought it
