What year is my beetle and is it a super beetle??

image.jpgOkay so I bought a air cooled bug over the weekend and I'm having trouble figuring out if it's a super or not . On the ad for the car it said it was a 1973 but on the bill of sale and insurance papers it says it's a 1969. When I search the vin on the internet it isn't finding anything under that vin.

The pic in the first post is the ID tag under the hood infront of the spare tire chamber. The second is on the chassis infront of the inspection plate and the third pick is of the car itself. PLEASE HELP

Looks like August of 1978 is when your car was built.

Two easy ways to tell if it's a super beetle or not.

1. Pop the hood! All Super Beetles had their spare tire laying flat.
2. Look behind the front wheels - see a big spring? If you do - you are staring at the Macpherson Struts and it, thus, is a Super Beetle.

How can you tell it's built in 1978? Wouldn't the 3rd digit in the vin represent the year?

It is a Super Beetle.
All standard beetles were flat windshield, the round windshields only came on supers.
