Those certainly wouldn't be my top choices, but I'd take the Jeep any day over the Rover. I've had too many friends who have had horrific ownership experiences with that brand.
If I were looking in that market, I'd be checking out Porsche's Cayenne or Lexus' RX 350 or 450. To stay in your price range, you couldn't put many options on the Porsche, but you should be able to get a 'basic' one for just under $60K. As far as I'm concerned, the new RX series Lexus models have some of the cleanest styling in that segment. Both are reliable vehicles. Dave B.
