Painting Fuchs Wheels

I have seen a bunch of nicely done Fuchs wheels on this forum with the classic silver and black finish and am working on a set myself for an RS 2.8. I am curious about the various techniques used to add the black finish to the recessed areas, especially the small area between the outer end of the spokes and the rim itself. Any hints, tricks or techniques would be appreciated!

look up hollow punch set. These come in in handy for making disks and making masks for wheels.

Here are some that I did. I thinned flat black paint then loaded up a small brush an touched it against the recess and let the paint flow out. You need to thin the paint quite a bit to get it to flow and it may take a few applications to get full coverage, but I was happy with how mine turned out.

AFX - Thanks for your reply. I admired your wheels in the 914/6 WIP and wondered about the process. I also considered Tamiya panel line accent but decided it would be too thin. I'll try to achieve your great results this weekend.

I've had good luck with using silly putty......Bob downie has a good tutorial.

i've seen something done on the standard toyota 86 wheels that might work for you (i think it was a wip on this forum?)
the technique involved painting the silver first, You need to use a lacquer at this stage.
Let that completely cure.
then paint the black over the whole wheel, but this coat is water based paint.
therefore you can easily wipe off the high spots and other parts you want silver with a cotton swab / Qtip with water if needed.

I belive it would be better to use enamel on the top of lacqure. Steps are the same, first silver lacqure and then black enamel. it would easy to clean up using enamels, since acrylics form a paint film after dried.
