Corsica 95 2.2

Hey guys. I was wondering if their was a way to see if my head is cracked/warped before removal. I have a Corsica with the 2.2. And I have a bad coolant leak. I can see it leaking on the drivers side (right side while looking at the motor, opposite the belt) and either the waterpump is leaking or the gasket is on that side too because my belt squeels. No coolant in the oil or vise versa that I can see. Lady I bought it from said it's been leaking for about 3 months. She said she never let it overheat. Do you think the head is ok?

Head gaskets on a 2.2L are a common problem.......

But unless you have x-ray vision, you can't tell if a head is cracked/warped, until it is removed....

You will need new head bolts.....

Since it's been leaking for 3 months, and you really don't know if she was giving you a story, if not cracked, possibility of being warped....

Re: Corsica 95 2.2

Well I pulled it apart. Looks like the gasket just failed. Poured diesel in the head and cylinders for a leakdown test. 6 hours later only 1/8" lower than when I filled it. I think most was evaperation. I'll check it when I get home and look at the back of the valves.

I saw it in a few YouTube videos. And on closer inspection it leaked around the valves. Checked the head over for cracks didn't see any. So went through all the work and assembled it. And wouldn't you know. The waterjacket is cracked. An exterior crack. I saw it bubbling. So I've got to pull the head again, buy a new gasket and install my new head when I get it. All I can think is son of a b. And mad at myself for not waiting.
