removing factory boost controller?

Hey all mind my bad knowledge about cars but I got a gts25t and my psi only seems to go up to between 6 and 7 not quite 7 and i was wondering weather is has something to do with all this factory boost controller ... and wat does removing the factory boost controller do ?
And can some one tell me wat ECU s do ? why do some of them cost heaps and wat does it do to your car that increases performance ?
and is it bad if your psi goes too high ?

plz explain for me Im just getting into all this car mod

lots of thx all

Ok heres a big quick beginner's run down.

7psi is normal boost for a gts-t. and yes, it is regulated by the factory boost controller which is controlled by the ECU. which brings us to the ECU, or the 'computer'. It quite simply controls most functions in your engine.. the spark n squirt as many people call it. It controls the timing of your spark... air/fuel mixtures.. boost.. different behaviors at different temperatures, boost levels, even makes your engine rev higher when your air con is on.

after market ECUs vary greatly in price, mostly due to their processing speed, sophistication, capabilities, software and brand name. They also vary in level of control. ie.. some simpler computers will merely take over fuel supply functions whereas others are intended to be complete replacements for the factory ECU. Talk to a specialist to decide what is right foryou.

Of course, an aftermarket ECU increases performance by controlling specific functions more efficiently than the factory unit... or by allowing you to tune the car for performance, less conservatively than the factory unit will allow.

If your boost (psi) goes too high then yes, that is bad. Keep reading around the forums and you'll find out why. Usually results in turbos or engines going to the big car yard in the sky.

Max boost for a stock R33 gts-t is between 10 and 14 psi.. depending on what series (1 or 2) your car is and what your general opinion of max safe boost is

Hope this helps.
