constant stalling

hi im new to VW's and i have a very urgent qusetion i need answered as soon as possible,...
my gf has a 94 golf III 4 door 2.0 auto, and for some reason it stalls for no reason what so ever. we could be driving down the road or hwy at 0 mph and out of no where it put put then stops so we have to while in traffic put it in nuetral turn it all the way off then start it again. then its fine for a few more min, its gettin increasingly bad lately. and quite dangerous. any ideas or advice as to what we should do to fix this please let me kno asap. also in doing a fuel injector cleaner and a fuel filter today
