94 camry stalls

I have 94 SE camry with the 3.0L V6 1MZ-FE engine and has individual coil packs. I'm getting a P1300 Igniter Circuit Malfunction. I have checked it out per the procedures EG2.pdf on the forum. I'm down to step 8 and the voltages are little different between the 6 points. started checking out the ground at the ECM per IN36 instructions. it appears that from pin #27 & 28 are not grounded to the ECU case.
could this be the problem, and if so why is it not grounded?
Cany you ground it yourself or does it have to be done internally for some odd reason?

thanks,
Randy

Re: 94 camry stalls

Why did you check 33 and 34? Are those the ground terminal shown in IN36?

If they are supposed to be grounded to the ECU case, then it seems like any type of ground will do. It could be that the grounding circuit is broken down-circuit from other grounds, and just grounding this circuit may not do what you intend.

Re: 94 camry stalls

It shows in the diagram that it points to ground, but it doesn't list 33 &34 as grounds. I ohmed out the pin connector 33 & 34 to ground and they are ground, plus there the brown w/ black stripe wires on 33 & 34. when you connect to the ECM, ohming the case to ground, it's not grounded like it says in IN36. When I turn on ignition, and disconnect I15 (black connector at Igniter) and measure voltage on pins 1 to 6, which is from the ECM, I get ~1.5V on 1-4, and nothing on 5 & 6. Instructing say crank engine and you should get .5V-1V (nothing 0V or 5V) I get ~2.5V on 1-4 pins, and nothing on 5 & 6 pins (at black connector).

So I'm not sure my ECM is bad, or is it due to a grounding issue, the case not grounded, like it says in IN36.

I hope I'm making myself clear. Just needing some advise. I dont' want to spend money on an ECM if I don't need to. If I end up ground those pins to ground, am I going to damage the ECM??

Re: 94 camry stalls

Sorry, I don't have any insight into this issue. If it were my car, I would try to find a similar car and measure the resistances and voltages on those pins. If they differed significantly, I would just swallow the bone and see if I could find an ECM from a salvage yard.

Good luck
