AC ripple alternator how much

Does anyone know how much AC ripple the alternator on a Windstar should have. And at what point does it start to have problems with the sensors and ecu.

Re: AC ripple alternator how much

Found out it should be no more then .5v. Mine was .8 and causing the engine to stall while at highway speeds. Changed alternator which was rebuilt with another rebuilt one now AC ripple is .22. And does not stall.
AC ripple is measured with a digital volt meter. Set it on AC volts 2 volt. Then positive goes to B+ on alternator and negitive to alternator case. If you Googgle AC ripple alternator you will get lot of info on it.
But if your van is stalling while you are driving it may be your alternator and don't assume it's not just because you just changed it and it's a new rebuilt. Have it checked
Also if your battery is weak it will cause your alternator produce higher voltage. I had one cell that was a little weak and my voltage was at 15.2 until the battery recovered.
