Re: Volkswagen Golf 3 Variant (#USCP)

Today I made side moldings.
Fujimi KIT has GTI moldings:

On Variant they must be not so wide and closer to wheel archs:

I also completed the correct form of front skirt:

Re: Volkswagen Golf 3 Variant (#USCP)

Looking good. But if you plan on resin casting this one is there a big market for it? A three door GTI wouldn't have better sales when casted? Either way your progress looks really good. Mouldings and bumper look spot on. I wish someone made a detailed VR6 engine set. Hint Hint

Re: Volkswagen Golf 3 Variant (#USCP)

Here we are getting to the fun part - the geometry of the rear part! Back of body I will do from the bumper - from it is easier to make the right proportions. To begin, I cut a notch in it under the back door. KIT bumper is flat:

In our own prototype rear door drops lower than hatchback:

on this picture I saw where the recess begins at the door - at the level of "slightly below the middle of the rack," if you look strictly at the back:

Cut:

Then it is necessary to extend the bumper. Cars have the same base and the difference in the length of the body is obtained just by the rear overhang. In scale the rear overhang of wagon must be 28mm. I make the mark on the bumper to extending:

Need to add a 9mm

"Missing" body parts, I'll cut from the same body that I have.

In this case, a piece of the rear bumper:

Done:

Cut the back door:

Now for the back door. We wagon tailgate window has a different shape. Rear rack should be more vertical. Rear window should be 29mm long. On the picture I mentioned these points:

"missed" almost 2mm. I cut the rack together with the factory panel lines and just put it there where it is necessary
In the crack paste a piece from another body

Done!

That's all for today.
Stay tuned

Re: Volkswagen Golf 3 Variant (#USCP)

Overall it seems like there isn't as many comments in general not just in your build. Don't get discouraged, your progress is topnotch!! It could also be as its not a popular car here in the states, as I would rarely see them. If I did, a older mom would be driving it. The rear is coming out really good. I really like how you made the handle. Don't worry many people are watching but not posting.

What putty do you use on the taillights? Two part epoxy?

Thak you!) That putty is Tamiya Light Cutting Putty.

Great stuff! It makes work much quicker

Re: Volkswagen Golf 3 Variant (#USCP)

continue ...
Finish body side. Parts taken from the "donor" Body

...on the other side:

Fuel tank flap I cut from old shells:

Next, I added the length of the roof.I use a piece of a "donor":

In order not to distort the geometry while I am engaged in the uprights, I put temporary stiffeners

It can be seen that the roof is too low in the rear

The shape of the roof at the wagon differs from a hatchback since the central pillar.
On Facebook one person warned me about it (thanks to him for care).

The solution - the rear pillar is extended by 1 mm. The roof stood as it should:
