Driver's side wheel getting hot
2003 Olds Alero
Just replaced the pads and calipers (changed and bled correctly). The driver's side rotor was ground on the inner surface of the rotor (about a half inch of grind from center). Thought I had a bad caliper so I replaced both sides. Now the rim is getting hot. Not sure if friction from the warn caliper is causing the problem or not. Did some smoking after some heavy braking last night. I'm at a pause whether or not to change the rotor, if that is the problem. I do hear a little noise from the rotor, probably due to the ground rotor. |

Re: Driver's side wheel getting hot
If you replaced the caliper and its still hanging up you need to replace the soft rubber line.

Re: Driver's side wheel getting hot
Before I do that, do you know anything about unplugging the battery to reset the computer, resetting the ABS?

Re: Driver's side wheel getting hot
Resetting ABS won't stop the brake from hanging up.

Re: Driver's side wheel getting hot
It ended up being the caliper pin being stuck.

Re: Driver's side wheel getting hot
installing the pads backwards will cause this also, the pad with the tall tab goes on the inside (piston side) of the caliper. Just something to check.

Re: Driver's side wheel getting hot
It was a stuck piston, post , pin, or whatever the technical name is; that the caliper attaches to the mount with. The one that slides in and out to release the pressure on the pads.
gmtech1 that would be a first timer's mistake, I've been doing my own brakes for 20 plus years, just hadn't ran into that issue yet. |
