2007 Lucerne Fuel Filter

I have read that somehow the fuel filter is integrated into the fuel pump and that there is an access panel for the pump located in the trunk. I read on Repairpal that the filter should be replaced every 30k miles so not to kill the fuel pump. Is the fuel filter actually separately replaceable and does the dealer sell them? O'Reilly Auto told me they can't get a filter for it. It is a dealer part. Thanks.

Re: 2007 Lucerne Fuel Filter

When you had an external fuel filter, rule of thumb was 2 years/30K miles.....your Lucerne has an internal one in the tank, probably part of the fuel pump, and is probably not serviceable(think they call them internal strainers)......there is no recommendation for change if you look up service intervals....

Sounds problematic. Seems like the strainer would clog and it would kill the fuel pump. I wonder if anyone has installed an in-line filter and removed the strainer?

Re: 2007 Lucerne Fuel Filter

There is no fuel filter, however there is a strainer in the fuel pump. It is not a serviceable item. If you want to replace the strainer, you replace the fuel pump. I don't know of anyone who has had issues with the strainer getting clogged and killing the pump. What kills a fuel pump is running the tank low all the time and the pump over heats. Fuel is a coolant for the pump.
