Brabham BT46 Prototype (Surface Cooler), Fujimi, 1/20

Hi, it's me again.

This time I built Fujimis BT46 in the prototype version with surface cooling, which didn't work even in the English winter

First the bad news: The chassis is the same part as in the BT46B kit, but in reality it looked different. Not a big problem for me, but it might be one for rivetcounters. But the consequence is, that you have to widen the small hole in the chassis for the air intakes next to the cockpit on the cowling to fit. Beginners might have a problem with this, and I had, too, as I didn't remove enough material on the bottom of the hole since I did not consider the paint thickness enough when test fitting, therefore the cowling does not fit 100%. So if in doubt cut 0.5mm more. And don't forget to paint the upper side of the bottom plate as this is visible though the bigger holes.

Not a mistake, but a bit confusing are the boxes around the intake trumpets. I first thought they should look as in the 46B, which was not possible with these parts, so I decided to cut a bit of the parts so that they look as the 46B parts, then this worked. Only later I found, that they are supposed to go on top of the trumpets, as the additional material compared to the 46B is supposed to be the mesh on top of the trumpets which was there on the prototype. Maybe they should have mentioned that this element of the part is supposed to be painted black, this would make it easier to understand.

Now for the positives, and the rest of the kit is very nice indeed. Everything fits well, etched parts for the cooler are included, and I have big praise for the decal sheet: Everything is included twice: with the dark blue printed and without it, if you want to paint this. On some leftover area they also printed some rectangles in the 3 major colours, in case you need some of it to touch up problematic areas (other kit/decalmakers should take a note of this). The white looks a bit reddish in the photos, but in reality everything is a solid white.

I'm not 100% sure on the skirts - most pics of the prototype I've seen dont show skirts, but I have one pic with skirts, so I used the parts.

I drilled holes in the seat, added belts, wires and fuel lines, the rest is from the box. Painted with TS8 and TS30 from the airbrush, Mr. Hobby Super Clear on top of that.

Hope you like it.
