03 Buick century overheating
My 03 Buick century is overheating. I changed the thermostat and the water pump. And still overheats as soon As I start driving. I am also getting when it is overheating some misfiring in cylindar 1. I am going to reflush and bleed the coolant even though it seems to be full . i dont think it is disappearing. Is it Possible i have a blown headgasket or intake manifold leak?

Re: 03 Buick century overheating
Yes, very possible you have a head gasket leak. Those are prone to happen at the #1 cylinder location.

Re: 03 Buick century overheating
Any other ideas? That can be causing the overheating? also my fans dont come on but i jumped the relay to get them to turn on so that isnt the cause.

Re: 03 Buick century overheating
Get a coolant pressure tester(can rent them).......
Get the engine warm.....then when it cools down enough, safely remove the radiator cap and pressurized the system to 10-12 psi...leave overnight... Next day, disable fuel and spark(pull two wire connector from ICM on passenger side...).... Remove plugs....Have someone crank the vehicle over while watching the plug holes......as GMTech1 stated, #1 cyl is the usual culprit for a head gasket.....that's the rear one on the passenger side....if coolant comes out of a cylinder hole, it's a head gasket..... Here is what happens, a leaking head gasket will cause an air pocket, which will restrict coolant flow, causing the engine to overheat...... This can be caused by a lower intake gasket leak or a head gasket leak.....the head gasket problem will cause a misfire from cylinder#1, especially on startup..... |
