Motor Mounts

I have a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban and about a year a half ago I had to replace the engine, mileage was about 176K miles. My wife noticed the engine running a little rough recently and took the vehicle in to the GM dealer where the engine work was done. They informed her she needed new motor mounts at a cost of $1800.00. From all the research I've done, it seems ridiculous that the dealer did not mention changing these out when the engine was replaced, and when I inquired, I was informed by the Maintenance/Service Manager, we would have looked at that and if they needed to be replaced we would have informed you. I don't see how a vehicle with 176K miles would not need new motor mounts or why at least with a vehicle with that many miles, the GM dealer would not have recommended we go ahead and change those out while the engine was being replaced. I would like to get some insight on general industry practices for this scenario as I think we were and are being taken advantage of by GM.

I personally have never heard of a worn motor mount to cause a "rough" running motor.

"Back in the day" an engine change also included new motor mounts. Today???

Should be general practice to inspect the mounts during the process.but what is running rough boil down to, not usually mounts as mentioned.

I should have been more careful in my choice of words, you can feel the engine vibrate at a stop for example; the engine itself is running fine, it's the periodic feeling of the engine not riding smooth

It has been described to us that the engine can actually move or bounce around and that in certain more strenuous conditions, it can actually force the hood to come up; this actually happened to my wife when she was traveling to CO not too long after getting the new engine put in, but she didn't know what to make of it at the time

the motor mounts on your vehicle appear to be more GM chinese crap. I have found some with your vehicle year having the rubber portion of the mount fall out because of the chines metal breaking down .

this is a 2 hour job thats it.

with bad MM the engine will be very shaky ..also not good for the wiring and hoses tubing etc...

From the dealer, I'm showing roughly 110.00 each for the mounts. 3.8hrs for both if 2wd and 4.2hrs for both if 4wd (alldata times). Yes, they should have been suggested to you when the engine was replaced (IMO) may have just been an oversight by the tech working the estimate. Either way, 1800.00 is way out of line.
