2000 3.8L - replaced intake isolator bolts - runs bad

Hi, I did the project of replacing the lower intake seals and bolts (the ones that leak) on a 2000 Winstar 3.8: and put everything back together carefully. Started up the car and the engine runs terrible. It shakes bad. Anyone have advice on common forgotten items? I do have this connector that I found unplugged - and I can't seem to find where it plugs into. It's on the same harness as the connector to the windshield washer pump. It doesn't go to the IAC or the TPS.

One thing that I'm kinda concerned about is that I did replace #3, #4, #5 and #6 spark plugs and wires. I ran out of time for #1 and #2 plugs and wires. Can that make a difference?

Something's not hooked back up correctly. I'll bet one of the plug wires is disconnected. Check both ends carefully. You can reach the coil pack connections with the cowl on; just use a flashlight.

Thanks and I'm wondering if one of the back spark plug wires are not on correctly. I did try and take off the #1 and #2 boots, and couldn't. I wonder if they got damaged in me doing so.

Check the vacuum lines as well. I don't think you needed to disconnect them, but check that all injectors are connected.

I'd focus on the dangling connector, although you should also make sure it's not a connector that's there for an option that isn't installed on your vehicle. Dirt inside the connector is a good sign that is was never connected in the first place.

Got the rough engine problem fixed - I had the #4 and #6 spark plug wires reversed (DUH!!). Engine runs smooth now!

I do have to find out where that dangling connection goes - I have the feeling it goes to the windshield wiper motors, because now the wipers don't move! It does squirt out fluid.

BTW for anyone that has the infamous P171 and P174 codes on their Windstar, let me know and I can definitely give advice on the fix.

Glad you found it. On my '96 the plug for the wiper motor is on the bottom of the lower part of the cowling assembly, above the brake master cylinder.
