99 GTP: Bleeding brakes and ABS

The master cylinder and ABS module were removed when the engine was pulled. It's all back in now. I did a "normal" brake bleed and got a stiff pedal. But as soon as I started the car, the pedal went to the floor. After pumping the brakes and restarting the car, same result. Something ain't right. Must be air in the system I concluded.

Elsewhere on AF, a master cylinder bleeding procedure is referenced. I haven't been able to find it online or in the factory service manual. The manual only mentions the normal brake bleeding procedure. Is a master cylinder bleed necessary? If so, where can I find the procedure?

Also online, there are discussions of air in the ABS module and the need to exercise the ABS solenoids either with a scan tool or by several ABS stops. I'm guessing the required scan tool costs more than I'm willing to pay.
Does the drive-and-make-ABS-stop method work? Can anyone provide more details?

I would like to avoid paying a shop to do bleed the system - naturally.

As always, any help is appreciated.

Re: 99 GTP: Bleeding brakes and ABS

A brake system pressure bleeder works best in this situation, I don't know if there is one to rent or borrow in your area or not, but it's worth a look. Also, as far as the ABS activation, I have had some success with this, but a scanner is usually best. I would start by trying a pressure bleed if possible.

Would this "pressure bleeder" by Motive Products be adequate? http://www.motiveproducts.com/

Has anyone used this? Is it any good?

While I haven't used that one, I don't see why it wouldn't work. Just keep the pressure up at 30-35psi.
