ok so i have this park ave. that i had a new key cut. started and ran fine. then it shut down. nothing showed in error codes. now i insert key in ignition and security light on dash blinks. turn ignition to on(run) security light goes out. tried the 30min relearn for key with no results.
where is the BCM located? is there a decent diagram of where? last diagram i used said the ECM was located by evap. can. damn thing is located in the air filter assembly! the fuel system is charging. but not staying charged. no cranking of the starter. |

Re: 99 Park Ave no start
When the key was cut- did they tell you it needed to have the transponder (radio transmitter) in the key head, and that it needed to be programmed to your car with a scan tool (Tech II)?
You have a PK3 anti-theft system in your PA- new keys have a procedure to make them work...

Re: 99 Park Ave no start
ya, it has the transponder chip in the key head. I have a used BCM on its way and should be here tomorrow. thought the ECM was bad to and ordered one of EBAY in which they programmed it with my VIN before shipping. turned out the battery ws dead. replace battery and again did 30 minute relearn with no luck. i am completely at a loss with this car!!! the only thing I can think is perhaps the transponder chip was faulty in the key perhaps??? i dont know. they didnt use the scan tool on the car. as i had to go get key and of course couldnt take car as car had no key at that moment

Re: 99 Park Ave no start
I am a little confused......you had a new key cut....why?
The old one doesn't work? Why are BCM's and PCM's being replaced? |

Re: 99 Park Ave no start
Do you still have the original key? If so, hold it up against the ignition switch and turn the new key to start-- if it starts and runs, you know for sure what is causing it- also, some have taped their old key to the steering column.

Re: 99 Park Ave no start
I had a 96 park avenue with same issue. I do not know if it uses same anti theft system or not. I installed a different anti-theft module as well as a neutral safety switch and starter relay in mine. Nothing helped other than rewiring the anti theft module. I ran new wires from the ignition switch to it. So far I have had no starting issues. I also installed a resistor in the ignition switch feed circuit that did not help matters either. Get you hands on a service manual and run a diagnostics check on the anti-theft circuit. My problem was intermittent so I could not use this chart.

Re: 99 Park Ave no start
I decided, Screw it. I made an appointment to tow it over to the dealership and have them fix it. I spent to much time on it. And I hate when people say a part is compatible and it turns out not to be. Happened with the BCM module! I have enough problems looking for a new door panel for the driver side and window regulator. The seats will be going off to be redone here in the next month and then replace the carpet. Actually car has very little to do to itjust that the damn parts I need are so hard to come by.

Re: 99 Park Ave no start
Knowing my luck, it'll be something stupid like a fuse inserted backwards or something terrible like a rat tore up all the interior wirring. lol

Re: 99 Park Ave no start
So as I promised here is an update;
I received a call from dealership stating that the starter is not engaging at all. Before they can go any further, they would have to replace the starter. They want $550.00 for that. Current charge for this tidbit nugget of information is 128.00 for 1 hour of service (ya, more like 20 minutes with minimum 1 hour charge) So gonna have it towed back home, buy my own starter, replace that and we shall see where that takes us. Not having fun with this car right now

Re: 99 Park Ave no start
"I received a call from dealership stating that the starter is not engaging at all."
Did they say they were getting power to the starter(battery and connections are ok), and that they were getting power on the purple wire to the "S" terminal of the starter solenoid, when the key was in the crank position? |

Re: 99 Park Ave no start
Well, you should check what I said before replacing the starter....
If there is no power on the purple wire with the key in the crank position, run a jumper from the large battery terminal on the starter to the "S" terminal(purple wire}....if the engine turns over, it's not the starter......be careful of moving parts(belt, pulleys)...do this with key out of the ignition.... |
