98 Mitsubishi Eclipse rs project

Hey everyone, I just purchased a 98 Mitsubishi Eclipse rs for dirt cheap from a family friend. ($200) it's in a little rough shape but I'm looking to tune it up. Everything runs fine for the most part, but seeing as I'm new to this if like to know what are the simple things to do before you start tuning that can still help out the performance of the car overall? After that what are some things you can do tuning wise that won't break the bank? I'm not on a tight budget or anything, I just don't want to over pay for anything that I don't have to. Thanks!
