Question advice on making gsr as fast as psbl with limtited $??

i just got a '96 GS-R and i want to add some stuff to make it faster. I dont care about making it look any flashier, i just want to get the car as fast as possible with the least amount of money.

I want to spend about $600, but that is very flexible.

Please tell me what i should get for it in the order of what would make the biggest difference first.

Thanks in advance.

50 shot.

most bang for the buck...

if ur looking for more of a "build" an intake isn't a bad start. next would be an exhaust system (full cat-back, test pipe an aftermarket header).

then upgrade cams, pistons etc...if u want FI.

Aem cai, I have a tanabe stainless steel cat back and recommend it but Greddy is also very good.

don't get AEM. all ur paying for is the colored piping and the AEM sticker on it. if ur going to get a CAI (cold air intake) then jus by a generic one for around $60-70 an throw on a k&n air filter.

as for exhaust, greddy evo is overrated as well. most of these products ppl are saying are jus big names, an not much else. if u go out an get some 2 1/4 in piping an have a muffler welded on, u'll see almost the exact same gains as the greddy evo, but pay about $300 less.

if u do want a big name, i'd agree w/ gsr, Tanabe is a very respectable company an their exhaust actually sounds good (compared to the evo)

on ur car, u have a header already (its jus pretty restrictive). if u look in the motor bay, its the piping that goes from the block down to the catylitic converter. (urs probably has a heat shield over it, look for the metal piece w/ the "do not touch" hand on it). an after-market header will free up the exhaust flow even more...so will a test pipe, giving u better top end (which is where u'll want ur power, because that is wut rpm range u are in when u race).

this is the whole purppose of intake/exhaust system (includes header)...to make your motor take in, and expell the air/ehxaust, quicker, therefore, making ur car quicker (not a whole lot, but a bit)

yeah i agree with you krnx, getting generic intake and exhaust will work just as well. I took the lazy route while also finding very good prices, $130 for cai on ebay, and $420 for tanabe exhaust on groupbuycenter.

ok please guys don't flame me for this im giveing him the cheapest way out.

Ok the most basick stuff you can do is intake, header, exhaust, ecu. they are considered baseline mods really.

Ebay is the shit if you can get it just watch who you buy from and watch those shipping rates. You can find a regular short ram intake for like &45 with shipping usually. Should be easy to install yourself if not get a friend to do it. you can get a knockoff muffler for like $60 dollers shipped. not sure how muffler shops in your area are but i can get the muffler installed with a repipe from the catback 2.5" for $85. we're up to about 190 right. ok now you can get a good set of headers for like $350 or lower. I mean good quality like DC or kamikaze. If you can get someone you know to install them its easy if not i don't know how much labor would be on that one. ok so now thats up to like $540 right. Add about $200 for a jetchip. you get a box you fill out some paperwork and send off your computer. If you get the chip form a shop sometimes thay have an extra computer for you to use while you send it off if not you'll have a lil downtime. So for about %740 give or take a lil you have the most basic mods you can get really. should gain a pretty good bit. for later on you can add a fuel pressure regulator, after market wires, and plugs for a lil bit. then'll you'll be decently set for some nitrous. Good luck man and hope this helped.

uh...thats exactly wut we've already said? (cept for the chip part, but i'd go HONDATA for a chip, yes more expensive, but better gains)

c'mon get the 50 shot it is the best hp for the money, and don't let anyone tell you that it is going to destroy your motor, I am proof that if you install it right and use it right it will do no damage to your motor. I have been using my nitrous for over two years now and my compression test results are almost to the specs for the motor in new condition.
