Cool. That's strawberry red, which I like. Scalefinishes has it, as I've ordered it from them for my 300sl cabrio

Re: Mercedes-Benz 190 sl Roadster hardtop (Revell
Use to keep seeing the old issues of these on ebay but I never pulled the trigger because I never knew what the kit parts were like.
Looks like a decent little old builder, if perhaps a little fiddly (muti-part body?) Might have to see about getting one.

Re: Mercedes-Benz 190 sl Roadster hardtop (Revell
Good luck on this one
.The fitment is very poor on the bodyparts. I just fell down from my chair when i saw the price of the kit .Overhere in the Netherlands they are about $ 16 now.

Re: Mercedes-Benz 190 sl Roadster hardtop (Revell
I'll check on that strawberry red, I have some paint already but that might be better quality.
It is a multi-piece body, and dryfitting them seemed to work, but there was a LOT of excess plastic and moldlines that needed sanding. Parts are being washed and dried, then painting will start. Pics will (hopefully) be posted this afternoon. |

Re: Mercedes-Benz 190 sl Roadster hardtop (Revell
Nice build so far!
The interior looks top-notch. Although the exterior and body color looks strange. Can you share more shots of body? |

Could be that red is hard to capture but I also think the body looks messy. Interior looks perfect and the color on that ref pic is so great!

Re: Mercedes-Benz 190 sl Roadster hardtop (Revell
Thanks for the kind words!
There was only one coat of paint on there at the time, and was a little too thin and runny so it collected in some areas and left others almost untouched. End result, it looked very "splotchy." Some more paint work to be done today, hopefully pics will be posted by tonight. |

Re: Mercedes-Benz 190 sl Roadster hardtop (Revell
Well I've effectively ruined the paint on the body, and I guess I should explain why.
I don't have an airbrush or spray-paint, never have. Been using brushes for 5 years and I'm well aware of the disadvantages of doing so. But the fact of the matter is that I do not have a place to spray-paint models. I'm a student in a tiny dorm room and I just can't do it without breaking a number of rules. So I brush paint with mixed results. In this case, a bunch of air bubbles that won't come out unless I sand it or strip the paint completely and redo it. More than likely I will just finish this one since it's almost done anyway, shelve it and start the next one. Ah well, it's all about gaining experience so I can get better! ![]()

Re: Mercedes-Benz 190 sl Roadster hardtop (Revell
Shame that. Couldn't you get away with a quick commando rattle can raid somewhere late at night? Great attitude with the 'just getting better' idea though!

Re: Mercedes-Benz 190 sl Roadster hardtop (Revell
Oh you can bet as soon as I find a place to spray I'll break out the rattle cans! I still want to get better at brushwork too, though. I assume that's how it was done back before the airbrush was a thing.

Re: Mercedes-Benz 190 sl Roadster hardtop (Revell
You have a positive attitude towards hobby and you will get nice results!
The brush-painted body looks not pretty, but you can play with weathering and other stuff to make it look real. |
