bolts broke wtf

have a buick regal ls 3800 v6, replaced the water pump and belt. took it for a test drive and the pulley for the w p fell off. pushed the car home a mile, come to find out the bolts have been sheered off on the w p bearing mount. i am just trying to figure out why this happened. any help or ideas welcome.
