06 equinox heater core replacement

I have an 06 torrent with an awful history if you read my older posts (head gasket, thermostat, water pump, brakes, battery, plugs, wires etc etc all new..within 1st year of owning this lovely car) anyways my new prob looks to be the heater core leaking. I have heat but not great. It fills the cabin with anti freeze smell and the haze on the windows. I have coolant in the area where the cabin filter is. Bars leak stop has been working for awhile but started again. Adding in more stop leak for now. How hard is the heater core to change? The part is cheap enough. Just trying to decide if I try it myself or not. Do I have to uncharge the ac? That may be a deal breaker for me. Thinking of trading it in for a ford expedition. I miss my old expy like crazy

Re: 06 equinox heater core replacement

Called dealer to see if my warranty from NEC covers it and was told no. Dealer wants $975 to fix it. Going to shop around a little. Dealer told me the ac has to be discharged and thats one reason its so expensive. That's also reason enough for me not to attempt it myself. Looks like more bars stop leak until I decide what to do. Prob trade it in and hope they don't notice the problem. Ugh worst vehicle I've ever come across
