Gear stick gone floppy..fewer gears

Hello,
I was driving along when I heard a bang under the car and after that, my gear stick was "floppy", and I could only get gears 2 and 3. Do you know what is the problem and how much it costs to fix it? I still managed to drive the car 30 miles home, but just had to slip the clutch in 2nd gear to get going at traffic lights. I have a year 2000 Peugeot 106.
(the gears now don't seem to be in the "same" position of selection with the gearstick.)
