5.3 engine swaps

I have a 2006 Sierra 1500 ext cab 4X4 Z71 with a 5.3L engine. My question is are any other years of the 5.3 engine that are interchangeable and would bolt up to the 2006? Would you need to change anything in the computer or wiring to swap a different year engine? The original engine has 107K miles on it and is starting to use oil (about 1 1/2 Qts in 3K) and there is some lifter noise but it still runs good. It will probably last several thousand more miles but just wondered what my options were just in case. Thanks
