Opel Ascona 400

Opel's most successful rally car, the Opel Ascona 400, homologated in group 4 in 1979 and introduced in world rally championship at Monte Carlo 1980, won several rallies in the beginning of the eighties and in 1982 Walter Röhrl gained his second title as a world rally champion with his Ascona 400.
But in spite of this brilliant career and although the car was very popular, no manufacturer of plastic kits ever produced a scale model, neither then nor nowadays. So if you want build a model of the car, you have to buy Gassmodels' resin kit, which is expensive but you get a complete kit in quite a good quality, or you use one of the old Bburago toys which were sold 30 years ago (if you get one...) and try to make the best of it...
Fortunately I bought some of those Bburago kits then, so I decided to use one of them for my project to build an Opel Ascona 400 in 1/24 scale. Not the famous car of Walter Röhrl in Rothmans colours, but one of those early Asconas in Opel's own livery white and yellow, the car of Jochi Kleint used in Portugal 1980.
And with a lot of work I succeeded to make a model car from a toy kit. The white metal body was modified, a new interior had to been built (roll cage, dashboard etc.), many parts were taken from other kits (additional lamps, seats, tyres etc.) or self-made (decals, rims). Hope you enjoy it:

With regards

Stefan

Something different; I like it. The weathering looks quite convincing.

Re: Opel Ascona 400

Love it Mate, one of my favourite rally cars and I used to own a 2-door i200 version with the skirts and fibreglass boot. I would love to get a kit for this car but the Gass one is not the greatest.
