My Buick Insanity

My 1990 Buick Century Limited stopped running 5 months ago & got towed home. So the work began, PS.. I neither have the knowledge or the tools of a mechanic but I do have some experience.
Anyway I started with changing the fuel pump & filter then the starter, water pump, MAFs & crank shaft sensor. Changing the crank shaft sensor made a difference but dialing that thing in has been rough I cant seem to find the sweet spot.
Is it supposed to be timed, it kind of acts like my truck would if it was out of timing or is there a special tool or trick I am missing? That's my dilemma any help would be appreciated thanks.
