A/C Work, can addatives make it colder?

Normally when I have to recharge my A/C I just grab a can of R134A from wherever and charge to 50 PSI. Sometimes I get something like Quest R134 with Sub-Zero addative. So far, I don't notice much difference if any. Does it make any difference or am I doing better with "canned air?" If it does make a difference, what brands work and which ones stink?

Side discussion: I've found it before, but now I can't find it, but why don't I see R134A with UV dye? If I'm having to put refrigerant in, I'm losing it somewhere. Why can't most, if not all cans of R134A have UV dye?

Those additives are crap if not dangerous. They're usually another, cheaper filler chemical that allows them to cut costs. Like ground up garbonzo beans in coffee!

Because ya don't want a shirt ton of that in the system either. UV dye can be added to the system in proper doses for diagnostic purposes. When used with a UV lamp it can pinpoint small, (over time), leaks.

I figured that was the case on the addatives...

On the dye, so far I have dumped it in far excess, but haven't had any ill effects yet. Also haven't had any leaks since then (and no noticeable refrigerant loss). I know it went somewhere, though.

I'm also working on a R134 refrigerator with a leak. We'll see how that goes...

The dyes I inject in capsule form are like a 1/2 oz to a 3lb system, max. I've seen systems at work loaded up w/ the crap and they're all gummed up needing a complete flush. It mixes and circulates with the oil. And acts like too much oil when added excessively.
