1993 Yamaha TZ250M / Tetsuya Harada
Hi all, I've wanted to do another liquid-cooled 2-stroke 250cc machine.
This time its the 1993 Championship bike ridden by Tetsuya Harada. I'll be machining the rear shock, fork set, and some other parts as I build. The second shot shows the parts that will be replaced or modified. I'll try to post often, as this one is moving along quickly. I'm around 1 week into it so far. Comments, criticism, and any reference links appreciated.. Enjoy! Marco Here we go! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Thanks guys! Mr Jekyll, your work inspires me, beautiful scratchbuilding!
I cannot even come close to that, Wow!... ordering Mr Dissolve Putty today! CircuitR, yes the jig is sweeter than the bike this time! lol!, but I'm trying... After some paint, washes, PE, and decals, shock is now complete:

Shock absorber looks very realistic with the metal parts. Very nice indeed.

Thanks utzelu, for your comment!
After looking at Mr Jekyll's TZ250M, I decided to slow down, and machine some intake horns, and a few other small items, completed the magneto wiring, clutch cable, ignition wiring, etc. IF anyone knows the right port for the fuel tubing, let me know. I assume it is out at the extreme ends of each carb body. Enjoy, C+C encouraged.. Marco

Re: 1993 Yamaha TZ250M / Tetsuya Harada
Seemed stalled for about 10 days, then finally realized I had actually made some good progress.
Scratchbuilt the rear brake caliper, adding a back side to it, and the fluid tubing connecting the sides. Then decided to machine the tiny throttle pulley (mounted on the right/front cylinder) out of aluminum and added wire around it for some realism. Married frame to swingarm, and engine to frame. Now for the dreaded fork machining.... Enjoy.. Marco ![]()

Hi Marco,
Would really be curious to see a close up of the brake caliper and throttle pulley. The whole setup looks like a Moto GP garage

Wow!!! The details are excellent! At some point in time, I would like to scratch build a pair of brake calipers for a chopper bike model I am currently designing.

Re: 1993 Yamaha TZ250M / Tetsuya Harada
Thanks utzelu! I am constantly watching your work!
Hi All, I've added welds to the exhaust, scratch built the cannisters, and created the curved flared exits from 1.9mm stainless tubing from HobbyDesign. I made a loop around it with solder line and used thin CA to secure it, simulating the flared end. Later, I will touch it up inside with flat black so it's less obvious to the eye. I also turned a new aluminum cap for the radiator, and made some hose clamps from .003" bare wire. Comments and criticism encouraged, thanks for looking.. Marco ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: 1993 Yamaha TZ250M / Tetsuya Harada
Hi All, I'm back onto this build, she's almost in the final stages.
I've painted and decaled the bodywork, and the remaining parts, and fork are in primer. Couldn't resist doing a mockup Still needs clear coat and lots of other small details.I'll be machining the fork from brass, so I'll shoot pics while on the lathe as I go. Really enjoying this build now... Enjoy! Marco ![]()

Re: 1993 Yamaha TZ250M / Tetsuya Harada
All done with this one!, after machining the handlebar crown parts,
the fuel filler cap, and fuel breather fitting... Very pleased with the result, after some hard work due to the kit being from 1993. She placed 2nd, behind my new YZR500 build in the local IPMS event.. Enjoy... Marco ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
