'02 Taurus only starts with remote start

2002 Taurus all lights work, turn key and dash lights come on normal, nothing flashing and anti-theft lights and turns off. Turn to start and nothing. Used to start w/remote starter but that quit working as well. I replaced the starter and battery and car still wont start with the key, but does start with remote.

ANY IDEAS?

Re: '02 Taurus only starts with remote start

When you try to start the car with a programmed key, does the Anti-theft/Security light then light or begin to flash? I see it does the bulb test fine, but I don't think the transponder in the key is actually energized until turned to the Start position.

Do you know if the remote start uses a bypass box or a programmed key and relay?

The anti theft light lights up initially but then goes away. Today it started with the key so not sure if it is the key or switch. At least it starts.
