Brake Light in dash wont go off

I recently replaced a broken brake line on a 99 lumina.I have good brakes and pedal, the fluid level is good, But the BRAKE light(Not abs light) will not go off in the dash.I bled the brakes using the pedal,I dont have any other method. The master cylinder was empty for 8-10 hrs.I'd hate to have to replace the master cylinder instead of something simple and cheaper to get the light to go off.I made sure the parking brake was released also. Not sure if ABS has something to do with it. Any suggestions??

Thanks

If there is air trapped in the abs this could cause this, try disconnecting one abs wheel sensor then drive till the abs lite comes on, then rebleed the brakes, reconnect the sensor, see what happens.

Max, I have to disagree with you on this.....the ABS module can turn the RED brake light on, but it will also set an ABS code, and the ABS light does not look like it's on(not mentioned)....I would disconnect the fluid level sensor in the reservoir and also disconnect the ebrake switch, one at a time, to see if the light goes out......

Also check to see if there is an ABS code in history and clear it....

Hmm, never seen that happen that way on that generation car, could be. Have seen air in the abs be a problem especially if the system was drained, usually need scanner actuate the solenoids to bleed it, but disarming the system must send the valves"home" to allow bleeding.

Re: Brake Light in dash wont go off

Thanks Blue Bowtie.
I will read that a few times.
I replaced the fluid sensor and the light is still on.Havent had a chance to get back to the lumina yet.My day job has been extending into evening job this week I'm capable of replacing a broken brakeline but not too familiar with abs brakes. There could be air trapped in the line someplace and the old style brake bleeding didnt work 100%.
My daily driver is a granite blue 2010 silverado 1500 w/4.3, Still has payments and Extended warranty baby!!
