2001 Montana Glove Box Lock

The glove box door got jammed or something and I can't close it. It seems the locking mechanism is jammed open or closed and the handle does not go to the close position even with the door open. How do you remove the lock after taking out the 2 screws? Or is it because the latch is bent?

After removing the two screws, the latch assembly should push out the front of the glove box door.

The latch assembly does not want to come out no matter how hard I push it or shift it around. Someone on another site said hammer it out using a piece of wood as a punch but I'm afraid it would break the glove box front. And if it is that hard to get it out, how do you install a new assembly?

Got it! Instead of a hammer, I used a long needle nose plier opened a bit and pushed down on the latch assembly in an area closest to me. It popped out and I fixed the latch, and snapped it back in. Saved perhaps $70 to a $100 if a dealer had to repair it from some posts I saw.
