Cig Lighter fuse/wire short- 2004 Silverado
There is definitely a short in the wire going to my Cig Lighter in my 2004
Silverado. Every time I put the fuse in, it blows immediately. I have pulled out the full center console and unplugged the harness for the Bose sub and everything else in the cab. So I have figured out that the short is between that harness and the fuse box. The problem is that I now need to run the diagnostics and can't. If there is a clever way to get power to the diagnostic outlet without having to find the short, I am open to trying it. Does anybody have useful information about the wiring diagram or anything else? Anything would be great. I think I am going to try to trace it from the fuse box, or just take off the harness. To be honest, I don't know that much about what I am doing, but going to try to get it done. Any help or dialogue would be greatly appreciated. |

Re: Cig Lighter fuse/wire short- 2004 Silverado
first you now know what that fuse feeds , since it is blowing as soon as you replace it. so now you electrically disconnect all these not working devices/power sockets[cig]/amp/alarm/even the pcm. see if it still blows, if it does then a wire is shorting out.
does this vehicle have any after market electrical components installed ? if yes ,, then my guess is they messed up the wiring when it was installed .. |

Yes, I have an aftermarket head unit. But it still has power. How would I be able to tell if that has a bad hookup? Also, how do I unplug the rest of it? I have already unplugged everything that is hooked up to the harness under the center console. |

Usually I find something inside the lighter socket, like coins for instance. Or something being plugged Into it that causes the fuse to blow, like a phone charger or a kids game.
