Ummm - tough question... make your engine perform maybe???????

Try increasing lift and duration on the lobes so as to let more air/fuel mixture in on the induction cycle as well as the exhaust cycle (depending on the profile).

what he said... and cams are generally a really good mod, especially if they are tuned.. you can get a lot of power from a good cam set up

a cam will increase the amount of air/fuel mixture going into your cylinders by keeping the valves open longer, for a general explanation.

They give more hp. Bigger cams shift the power band to higher RPMs and you loose lowe end torque. The have bigger lobes and bigger lobe seprations. If you run a big cam youll want more compression as well to take advantage of it as well as a ported head and intake manifold that will flow with the powerband of the cam. Big cams suck for daily driving but rock at the track.

....and thus, VTEC is born. big cams suck at lower rpm because they're tuned to make power where it matters, in the higher rpms. and yes, this kills low end. and then VTEC was born. you can still have drivability in the low rpms, plus the high performance big cam at higher rpms where it is needed.

If you ask me though, take a non VTEC engine, put VTEC spec cams in it, and it will perform like a VTEC.

The performance profile you mean, the cams themselves won't fit

you wanna hear some dumb shit, this kid at my tech school said he had a mustang cam in his ITR motor, what a moron.

same kid that said he had that motor, 3 KKK 60PSI turbos, 2 50gal drums of nos, no intercooler, a CF Crankshaft, and a spinning BOV, with only 550hp, all this inside an 87 civic hatch.

but of course, notice i said vtec spec cams, meaning the same lift/duration of a VTEC cam, but a non VTEC setup.

i talked to a local "honda enthusiast" today, it was almost as bad as that but not quite.

he said his friend has an 88 integra, "you know, the ones with the ZC, 138hp" , well anways, this kid argued with me that he can take this "138hp ZC" and bolt it right into his 89 CRX
