Hood Ajar

Hello.

2007 SV6 ext

On the dash it constantly says hood ajar.
We can press the arrow key and ignore for the ride, but next time you start there it is again.
Remote start doesn't work because of this error.

Is there a way to bypass the sensor?

Re: Hood Ajar

No. Safety feature so car isn't remote started while someone is working under the hood. Look at item 017 on this diagram:

Edit: You may be able to put a jumper wire in the plug. But you'll need to test the switch exactly how it functions.

Ah I c.

The price is not so bad either.

Just wonder if there is a way to be sure it is the sensor that is failing.

Re: Hood Ajar

I'm pretty sure it's not a sensor but a simple switch. Since I don't know how it functions:
If it was my car, I would pop the hood so the ajar light is on. Then look for the plug. Disconnect it. If the light stays on, then switch open triggers the light. Put a jumper wire on the plug end and see if the light goes out. But I would also look if there are any adjustment bolts that allows you to move the latch up/down. It may some as simple as that.

rockauto.com has a better picture.

Re: Hood Ajar

It's usually the switch...then the code has to be cleared for the remote start to work...

I tried to jumper across both wires on switch. No change
I ran a wire to ground from each wire. No change.
Left the plug un plugged. No change.

Re: Hood Ajar

But did you clear the code?

I think all you have to do is disconnect the switch, and then clear the code, and then try the remote.....

Ah, nope. I didn't clear the code.

I assumed when the bcm was satisfied the message of hood ajar on the dash would go away.

I have a cheap code reader/clearer should I be using that or is there a better method?

Re: Hood Ajar

Leave the switch disconnected.......If your reader can read the code, clear it......then see if it comes back....then see if the remote start works....
