Fuel Pump Replacement

I'm looking for recommendations of which brand fuel pump to purchase. I've read that some brands are likely to fail within a few months. Any advise and experience would be welcome.

Re: Fuel Pump Replacement

Having replaced with several brands ... I have no recommendation, other than inspecting the received replacement just out of the box ... if the replacement unit is not complete, requiring you moved components from "old" to "new" ... BEWARE ... put it back in the box.

Re: Fuel Pump Replacement

I'd definitely get the whole fuel pump/sender assembly as a full drop-in replacement, especially given the difficulty of the job. Luckily I haven't had to do it yet but I'm sure my day will come. (Thanksfully the Camry has an access door under the rear seat, should I ever have to replace that one.)

Re: Fuel Pump Replacement

I bought a Delphi brand pump, P/N FE0154. The pump in the box is actually made by Welbro P/N 5CA209 (Made in USA). The electrical spade terminals are a little further from the assembly top than the original Ford pump, but the wires reached OK with some stress relief to spare. None of the damper or O-rings fit the application, but the original parts were in good condition.

I checked the Ford pump after removing it, and found that the pump would usually run, but occasionally would not restart. A sharp bump would get it going again. The electrical resistance was high (>50 ohms) when this happened. Normally the resistance is <10 ohms.

I put a new sock on, but it is smaller (~ 1/3 smaller) than the OEM. There is so little dirt in the tank that I don't believe it will be an issue.

Re: Fuel Pump Replacement

If I ever have to drop that tank again, I promise (myself) I'm gonna fashion an access door of some sort in the floor pan. Ford would probably have done it if all floor pans were to be used in passenger-vans instead of some in cargo-vans. Something to consider if this vehicle is a "keeper" for you.
