Problems with my 1996 jeep
Ok so they may be minor but still a pain to fix.
Dash board lights are starting to go on me for one. Also when I run the front defroster it kicks in the air conditioner compressor but then it squeeks like a mother. When I unplug the power connection from it it doesnt squeel anymore, whats the deal folks any ideas please let me know cause with this heat I'm dyin here.

I had the same problem. It had a new Goodyear Gatorback belt with the grooves that ran diagonal across the belt. Changed it for a plain belt. The slippage squeal went away.

The ac is made to come on when you use the defrost. it helps to keep it charged. That is normal for a jeep. The sound. get a new belt.

the A/C comes on to dehumidify the air,
there are two options for the squeal 1. the best option, replace the belt 2. spray silicone on the belt, it'll slip, but you won't hear it, expect the A/C to run about 75% of the speed it should. |

Squeel gone from replaced belt but now groan and leaking something!?
Thanks to all who replied,
I changed out the belt and squeel is gone but now we seem to have sort of a groan, and we have started leaking something. It doesnt squeek but sort of a low groanish moan that rises and falls as you rev or drive. Thinking either water pump or power steering!? It doesnt look like oil and is to far up for it to be from the tranni. Any thoughts? Thanks again, Joe

Sounds like your AC compressor is going and its leaking the Ester oil in it. Id take it by the shop and have it checked.
