ABS Pulsing too often

I have a 2008 Grand Prix, 3.8L NA. over the last few months I have been getting the pulsing like the ABS is kicking on when going fairly slow on dry pavement, good conditions that should not trigger the abs. I am suspecting that I have a bad abs sensor. The car has both ABS and Traction control.

In looking at Rock Auto and NAPA on-line I am not finding an ABS Sensor, I am finding a Speed sensor, is this the same thing? And is it the same thing on all four wheels? I read somewhere to test the sensor you need to check the resistance of the sensor, what ohm value should I expect?

At this point, no indications on the dash or DIC to indicate a problem.

Thanks for your help,
John

Re: ABS Pulsing too often

I'm not sure about the 2008 but the older model Grand Prix speed sensor is part of the wheel hub and you cannot buy it seperate. There is a Vehicle Speed Sensor which is a part that goes into the transmission and has nothing to do with the ABS.
A while back I had an issue and needed to check the speed sensor which is part of the hub and was told that you should read 800-1350 ohms and that you can also check to see if the sensor is creating an A/C signal while spinning the wheel. Again this is on the older model Grand Prix.

Re: ABS Pulsing too often

You really need a scan tool, like a Tech II, to check this out....need to go on a road test and take a snapshot of the speed sensors from all four wheels, when the concern occurs...then by replaying the wave forms of each wheel, you can found out which circuit is at fault....could be a connection, wire harness, sensor, EBTCM, speed ring, etc.

the sensors are part of the hub & bearing....

Knowing which wheel is causing the problem is the starting point....

What you're describing, does it happen more so when turning? Usually I find the speed sensor harness has a break where it loops up from the control arm to the plug at the speed sensor. Replacements are available for about 75.00 from a dealer.
