1996/97 #6 Valvoline Ford Thunderbird Mark Martin

Hi

Starting with a new WIP...Mark Martins 1996/97 Valvoline Ford Thunderbird.

Valvoline...

...and Durablend.

The Decals are from slixx and they looks pretty good, a lot of small decals on the sheet, thatīs perfect.

handmade tire logos and roofflaps decals...

...also dash and wheels logos.

The basic is a 1996 #75 Remington Kit.

A lot of body mods to do...lets start.

The old and the new fender...

..kicking out the rear...

...the front and the rear are also not correct.

Here is the body withe the new fender...

the black area show the first mods....

...here is the rear rod house.

Correcting the front was the last step....

...and this is the body at the moment.

I have a die cast of this car. Let me know if there are any views/pictures that would be helpful.

Re: 1996/97 #6 Valvoline Ford Thunderbird Mark Martin

Hi

Some updates from the Valvoline car.

Hinges for the hood and decklid are done.

Missing the openings for the exhaust and the jack, then the body is ready for painting.

Cutting the protection parts out of the rollcage parts and fixed it with Evergreen rod.

This is the target....I found this picture in an old german US Car Magazin from 1997. The pic shows the cockpit of Mark Martins 1997 Sears Point Road Course car.

Wheels and tyres are done.

Re: 1996/97 #6 Valvoline Ford Thunderbird Mark Martin

Hi

I copy the decals and put it on the body to get the correct direction for the livery.

I started with Tamiya TS-55 dark blue, but this a big mistake because this blue is more black then blue.

I started again with TS-51 Racing blue and this time it looks more better.

The chassis and the roll cage are painted withs TS-26 pure white.

The roll cage padding were prepared exactly as in the #12 Coke Malibu WIP.

Just as an FYI, those wheels are not accurate for that year, and you have two different wheel manufacturers decals on the same wheel, the inaccurate wheel you are using are Aero wheels, the correct wheels , which come with the kit are the Bassett wheels. And technically, the tires are not correct for that year either.

Just trying to help you build a more accurate model.

Re: 1996/97 #6 Valvoline Ford Thunderbird Mark Martin

Hi

Thanks for this information.

When I made the wheels back then, I found these pictures on google. Jeff Gordons 1997 Chevy with Aero wheels. The tire logos are the same Iīm using.

then I looking to the pics of the Mark Martin car, and I thinks thes are the same tires.

Youīre right, the bassett logo is incorrect, I will fix this.

Great idea on how to fabricate the deck lid hinges.
