Timing belt issue
The timing belt on my son's 2002 2L single overhead cam snapped. We towed it home and disassembled it. The online instructions for replacing the belt say to align the pointer on the upper sprocket with the mark, and the node on the lower one with a slot before removing the belt. But our belt is somewhere in a ditch along US 169 and the two sprockets are out of alignment. Can anyone tell us how to insure the crank and cam shaft are each in the proper segment of their cycles when the indicators line up? Is it possible for one to be a full rotation out of phase with the other? Or maybe it does not matter. just as long as the pointers point to the right spot? Thanks.

Re: Timing belt issue
You have a 2002 Cavalier w/2.0 SOHC engine? You sure you don't mean 2.2 pushrod engine? Or maybe a quad-4? The only SOHC Cavalier engine I'm aware of is a 1.8 sourced from Brazil. BTW...once you are sure about the engine in question, the info you seek can be found (free) at Autozone's website in their repair guides section. Good luck!

Re: Timing belt issue
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-yCOAJLmIM. This is the first one I googled. Not a bad one either. It comes in 2 parts. Part 2 probably answers your questions. Also good time to replace the water pump.
