1999 Rav-4, won't start without foot on gas
This has happened before, but I can't find my old mechanic's invoice to find out what part it is and fix it. The car starts fine if you step on the gas a little, otherwise it won't. This only happens when the engine is hot. A cold start is OK. Any ideas? I'd like to try and fix it myself.

Are you getting a Check Engine light? If so, what is the code stored? Check for spark when the engine's hot.

The light never came on. It wasn't on last time either, if I recall correctly. I can try to scan it later but I doubt there's anything there.

I'm thinking it's the Idle Air Control Valve on the throttle body. I'm gonna spray it all down and see if that fixes it.

Well, I sprayed it down and it seems to be working now (will start when hot without gas pedal pressure.) Good thing, it doesn't look real easy to replace that part and it's not cheap.
