Need help with 1988 G30 5.7L
I just got a 1988 class C on a G30 chassis with the heavy duty 5.7L carbureted engine. The AC compressor is locked up. A previous owner put a belt to drive the PS/hydro-boost pump but it's all wrong and just slips without driving the pump. I don't need the engine AC and would like to bypass it. Can I just use the "without AC" belt or do I need to do something else? For the first time Haynes has failed me - the manual for this model covers so many different configurations they just say follow the existing belt routing. I really don't want to try to figure it out if someone else has already done the homework. Thanks for any help.

Re: Need help with 1988 G30 5.7L
Dorman makes a by pass pulley to eliminate the ac compressor, check on this for your engine, Napa, Carquest and such should have the info.

Re: Need help with 1988 G30 5.7L
Thanks, maxwedge. That's one possible solution to look into. I assume it's like a dummy compressor? I don't know if there's a charge in the system so I might have to have someone purge it. I'd still like to know if there's a work-around that doesn't require cracking the lines.
