92 civic ecu problems

ok, gather around kids....its story time (i'll try making this short..)

My car magically wouldnt start one day...
check engine light came on...

I got a lot of advice and i figured it was probably the ecu was bad. (was the car's second one already)

anyhow, I took it to a local car dealership (hondaland)
They charged me like $200 to find out it was the ecu that was bad. (which pist me off, 4 hours to find that out is what they said...croc of sh*t)

so, instead of buying a new ecu ($700) i bought a used one from 'discoveryautoparts.com' ($125)

long story short, I put the new ecu in the other day and the car fired up! But the check engine light comes on after a second or two and it limits the rpm to maybe about 3k or so. (no tach, damn DX)

Any clue what the hell it is? Another bad ecu or the check engine light need to be reset or ahh i dont know. Any suggestions?

I just read in another thread, someone mentioned how hondas computer will retard the engine and causes more fuel in the cylinders and leaves carbon deposits on the spark plugs when the check engine light is on. So I don't think it's the computer anymore now..(i hope)

my car just wouldnt start one day too. It wasn't a steady progression of the car getting bad. So I doubt something is majorly wrong mechanically with the car..

Is it that I simply need the check engine light reset?

O wise people....fill me with your knowledge.

Resetting will not fix the problem. Check what code the ecu is throwing.

i had a hayes repair maunual but it's lost in the junkyard that I call my old room.

Anyhow, I know you have to take a paperclip in the plastic plug near the glovebox and bridge two connections then it throws the codes out.

Anyone have anything on what code means what? I'm going to go try that now and see what code it gives me. brb.

it was 1 long flash followed by 6 short flashes of the check engine light.

what does the code mean?

Someone here has to have a hayes manual or know....

think i found it online.

says fuel injector system *grimaces*

I filled the car up with a full tank of gas and put in some like max stregnth fuel injector cleaner.

Should I keep driving it around and hope it cleans itself up?

My car sat for about a month or 2 while it was broken and maybe some the gas is bad?

ok, here's what been happening in the mean time...

I sent back the ecu I got, got another one and it does the same thing.

The only other thing I think it could be is a bad wire or something in the wiring harness. Someone said something along the lines of possibly a bad 'fuel injector resistor' or something like that when I called up to send the old ecu back. I don't know anything about that.

Anyhow, i've been checkign out cars to replace this plagued pos. and I came across this sweet ass deal...

unfortunatly it's sold though....
